About Our Foundation
The Omer Yembe foundation is a 501c3 charitable entity created and registered in the State of Texas in 2015. Our mission is to improve the health, education and well being of the people most in need. Our initial focus will be on the people of the in and around the village of Mbot, Cameroon.
The Omer Yembe Foundation was started in 2015, by Dr. Enaka Yembe, a Family Medicine Physician living in the United States of America. This was done in honor of our late father Dr. Omer Weyi Yembe who worked relentlessly to bring hope for the future to his people in Mbot. On August 1st of 2008, the late Dr. Yembe survived a massive stroke while visiting the people in Mbot. He had to make a six - hour road trip, lying on the bed of a truck, almost unconscious and without any medical attention or emergency support to the nearest hospital that could resuscitate him. The paucity of a healthcare this area immediately became painfully obvious.
Our survey of the people of Mbot and surrounding villages reveals a pattern not uncommon to rural areas in developing countries. Sickness, pain and suffering are commonly due to poverty and lack of education alone.
One of our missions is to help bridge these huge health resource gaps by bringing quality healthcare to the people. We are extremely aware of the need for medical services to the most vulnerable population, especially women, young children and the elderly. We also strive to empower the medical personnel with the education and tools they need to prevent and treat disease.
Mbot has a population of about 10,000 people if you include the nearby villages. Death in individuals of all ages is commonly due to preventable diseases and as a result of poverty and lack of education.
